Several leaders from African countries are currently in the United States capital Washington DC for the 2022 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. All the African leaders, except for Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, were welcomed by senior U.S. officials and military honor guards at Andrews Airforce Base. By contrast, it appears that Abiy was welcomed by a few Ethiopian embassy employees when he arrived at night on December 11, 2022.

Abiy Ahmed and successive Ethiopian leaders who came after Emperor Haileselassie turned Ethiopia into a failed state. They disgraced themselves with their utter stupidity, corruption, and lawlessness. Even as Abiy was in Washington DC today to discuss peace, economic development, and good governance, his federal police in Addis Ababa was busy arresting peaceful opinion makers and journalists such as Meskerem Abera.

This was how Emperor Haileselassie was received when he arrived in Washington DC in October 1963.

Abiy did not participate in any of today’s Summit-related activities at the Convention Center. But a brief statement about his meeting with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was released by the State Department in the afternoon.
