The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is the largest of the Oriental Orthodox Christian churches. One of the few pre-colonial Christian churches in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church has millions of followers, the majority of whom live in Ethiopia. It is a founding member of the world council of churches. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is in communion with the Eritrean orthodox tewahdo church, the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, the Syrian Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, having gained autocephaly in 1959. The church also keeps most of the country’s political and social history in its old churches and monasteries.
The news gives a detailed description of the current issue regarding the church as some members of the church started their own movement to open the regional council of the church in Oromia. It tries to search for the truth about the president of the Oromia regional state Ato ShimeLis Abdisa’s speech on the immediate meeting of the church this week.
