An Ethiopian Premier League soccer match between Welwalo Adigrat and Mekelakeya on Sunday turned ugly when Adigrat players went after the referee.
At a 1-1 score, the referee saw the ball go over the goal line and gave a goal to Mekelakeya. The Adigrat players were furious over the decision. They surrounded the referee who ran for his life. But the Adigrat team players and staff caught him, tackled him to the ground and pummeled him until police intervened.

Embarrassed by the incident, the following day the Ethiopian Football Federation suspended premier league games and summoned all the 16 teams to an emergency meeting.
