Poland receives Ethiopia’s figure head president with pomp and circumstance; why?

This week the government of Poland has welcomed Ethiopia’s figure head President Mulatu Teshome with pomp and circumstance that is normally reserved for consequential leaders. Mulatu’s visit involved discussions on trade and investment, but he did not give any indication that the government is willing to reform Ethiopia’s economy that is currently benefiting only the ruling elite, not the people of Ethiopia. Mulatu also stated during a press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda that the government’s monopoly on the banking and telecom sector will continue, turning off a potentially huge investment on the Ethiopias’ economy by several multinational corporations.

Poland’s government has pulled all the stops to welcome Mulatu, who has no governmental power and offers nothing new to both Ethiopia and Poland.

Under the current system in Ethiopia, the prime minister holds governmental power, while the president plays ceremonial role.

The following are some photos and a video showing the visit in Poland by President Mulatu Teshome Wirtu and his wife Meaza Abraham. They were officially welcomed by the Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda:
