Maekelawi is a national prison compound opened by the military regime (Derg) in Addis Ababa. It is told that there were so many human rights violations and darkrooms existed to torture people. This prison compound is currently opened for a visit as a museum after so many renovations. It was to be recalled that two years ago Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn promised to make Maekelawi a national museum when the countrywide struggle and opposition reached its maximum point.
