Due to a conflict that started on April 25, 2019, all areas in Metekel Zone had been in tension. The conflict that lasted three days began after a policeman assaulted a civilian in Dangur woreda. According to reports, more than 20 houses burned down, and 18 people had died as a result. The conflict awoke an ethnic controversy after authorities reported that casualties were from Amhara and Sinasha and Gumuz communities. The conflict came to an end, and presidents of the two regions met to discuss solutions on further action for stabilizing safety and security. In a press conference held today, Amhara region communications bureau head Asemahegn Asres gives an update on the current situation in Metekel and Jawi.
