Metekel, one of the three Zones in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia is bordered on the south and southwest by Kamashi, on the west by Sudan, and on the north and east by the Amhara Region. The zone has been in tension since April 25, 2019, following federal police killing an individual. Currently, the conflict has broken out to the point that nine people have lost their lives and many properties damaged.
