Conflict breaks out in Metekel zone, western Ethiopia

Metekel, one of the three Zones in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia is bordered on the south and southwest by Kamashi, on the west by Sudan, and on the north and east by the Amhara Region. The zone has been in tension since April 25, 2019, following federal police killing an individual. Currently, the conflict has broken out to the point that nine people have lost their lives and many properties damaged. Mereja TV contacted Tefera Beldi, Metekel Zone Communication Head and Asemahegn Asres, Director of Amhara Region Communication Affairs Office for a report on the current situation.
