Tiglachin Monument is a memorial statue built to commemorate the fallen Ethiopian and Cuban soldiers during the Ogaden War. The monument, commonly known as Derg Monument, was built by the order of Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam on September 12, 1984. It stands in front of Black Lion Hospital, on Churchill Avenue in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The inscription reads, “The actions of the heroes who have fallen in the struggle for life and respect for our homeland and our revolution are immortal.”. The area around the monument is quiet and relaxing despite being located at the center of Addis Ababa. Three youths took advantage of the refreshing scenery and opened a library. The library charges a minimum fee for spending a day reading and rent books.
