Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen was sworn in as the president of Amhara region on March 8, 2019, replacing Gedu Andargachew. In his first speech as the president, he stated that he would focus on the regions political, social and economic affairs. He also declared he would pursue fighting radicalism and securing peace in all Ethiopia. As a start for his strategy, he held discussions with residents of Debre Markos and Injibara towns.
