Despite publicly promoting non-ethnic ID in Addis Ababa, many have accused Acting Mayor Takele Uma of ordering ID issuance illegally for individuals in Bole sub-city. The act, considered as one of ODP’s strategy to change the chartered city’s demography to secure an ownership claim, received backlash. But it didn’t change the acting mayor’s agenda. According to human rights activist and journalist Eskinder Nega, he has collected material evidence that shows such criminal activities are still in play in additional sub-cities in Addis Ababa.
