Ethiopian political parties signed a code of conduct yesterday at Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa. After weeks of discussions, the 107 political parties’ representatives including EPRDF signed the guide on rules of behavior for political parties and their supporters during an election campaign. EPRDF chairman and prime minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed attended the event as the representative for the party. He gave a speech to congratulate the parties for signing the document which is a big step in building democracy. He also assured that the government would do its best to guarantee a free and fair election.

In addition, PM Abiy Ahmed expressed his concerns on how many political parties are pushing radical thoughts to the community. Even though freedom of expression is a mark of democracy, many political parties and activists allegedly profit from instigating chaos by implanting baseless and biased historical agendas to further ethnic radicalism.
