During the networking event held at Mosaic Hotel, Frealem Shibabaw was one of the keynote speakers at the event. Frealem is a renowned philanthropist and children right advocate. She started her first social project in 2001 when she founded Bahir Dar Academy. During her visit to the academy, she met a student who had malnutrition because his mother couldn’t afford to pack him a lunch. The incident inspired her to start the Ethiopian School Initiative. The initiative has developed into an income-generating project in Bahir Dar and Sebeta after other stakeholders joined.
Frealem also co-founded the Amhara Region Association of Women Entrepreneurs. The association organizes women entrepreneurs and provides financial assistance. She was nominated by Association of Women in Business (AWiB) for the annual third edition of Women of Excellence. For her incredible dedication on advocating children’s nutrition, World Vision named Frealem Goodwill Ambassador at a National Livelihood and Nutrition Summit held in on 27 July 2018 in Hawassa.
