Ethiopia’s new health authority partners with USAID, goes digital


Ethiopia’s health authorities have announced a collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the AIDSFree project. The collaboration is meant to support the launch of the improved Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration (EFDA) which will use technology to make foods safer.

The organizations came together to launch the Electronic Regulatory Information System (eRIS). The eRIS is described as an open source, locally-developed software that will enable the EFDA to monitor food products that are licensed, and imported.

The EFDA will replace the Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority (FMHACA). The new EFDA is also responsible for licensing health professionals and regulating health services. [….] CONTINUE READING
