On Saturday, Mereja TV journalists Fasil Aregay and Habtamu Oda were detained by police and attacked by a youth mob in Legetafo town, Ethiopia. The journalists were in the area to report on the situation regarding the house demolition and current status of those who have become homeless. Mereja TV General Manager Frezer Negash gave a press conference later that day to clarify the events as they unfolded.
It is to be recalled that the Legedadi Legetafo city administration started the demolition of thousands of houses deemed as being illegally built. There has been an outcry over the matter as the decision left thousands of people including children and the elderly on the streets.
