Ethiopian runner wins Birmingham race and sets 1,500 meters record

An Ethiopian athlete has broken the indoor 1,500 meters world record. Samuel Tefera bested his compatriot Yomif Kejelcha to win the IAAF World Indoor Tour race in Birmingham on Saturday.

Tefera,19, clocked in a time of 3:31:04 to set a new record. The previous indoor 1,500 meters world record was set in 1997 by Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj who had a time of 3:31.18.

Kejelcha, who is a two-time world indoor 3,000m champion, came in second place. He finished with a time of 3:31:58.
