1,000 OLF fighters surrender and enter rehabilitation camps


About 1,000 rebel fighters from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) have surrendered their weapons and entered government rehabilitation camps.

The OLF has been engaged in an armed struggle since 1992 after a dispute with the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).

However, the OLF changed its stance after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came into power last year.

“Parts of Oromia regional state, which had been suffering from unrest, are returning to normalcy, with OLF fighters giving up their arms and re-integrating back to their local communities,” Admasu Damtwe, the Oromia region head of communications, said on Thursday. […]CONTINUE READING
