Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) officially informed all undergraduate students to leave campus starting from January 20, 2019, for a re-registration on March 5, 2019. This is the second time the university has issued a re-registration. The university board came to this final decision after 34% of the students failed to complete eighty percent of the semester scope. According to the board, the education quality lowered in ASTU as a result of the recent protests and strikes in the university. ASTU student held strikes and protests opposing the University’s alleged false promises. The second students strike followed the suspicious deaths of three students found in a water tank. The zone’s police posted the results of the investigation of the students’ death to calm the strikes, but the students still refused to continue learning. Mereja TV interviewed ASTU students about the previous protests and the university’s decision, and their responses were completely unexpected compared to what’s been on the media lately.
