Commander of Oromo Liberation Front in Guju accepts peace deal


A faction of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) based in Southern Ethiopia has agreed to the peace terms laid out by the government.

Elias Gambella Gollo, who is reportedly the leader of the OLF militant group which operates in the Guji areas, accepted the terms after talking with mediators. The mediators were Aba Geda, who are leaders in the Oromo culture.

The traditional Oromo leaders called on all parties to use peaceful methods to resolve the ongoing conflict. The Aba Gedas said they would not accept any armed struggle.

While the OLF faction in the South is gravitating towards peace, the OLF faction in Wollega in Western Oromia is currently battling government forces. Over the weekend, the Ethiopian army conducted airstrikes on rebel strongholds in the region. […] CONTINUE READING
