Dr. Seleshi Bekele Awulachew(Engineer), minister of Water Irrigation and Electricity of Ethiopia, Dr. Abraham Belay, executive officer of Ethiopian Electric Power Company. Kifle Horo (Engineer), project manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and Ms.Roman G/Selassie, Public Participation Coordination Director for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance were on a panel conference today. Some people who took part on the panel conference requested for the name of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam to be changed to Abay Dam. Ms. Roman G/Selassie, public participation coordination director for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance replied to this request by saying how we haven’t been advantaged from Abay in the past except hearing it be praised in different songs and how its present name shows the big changes made to gain from it. It was said that, if the dam was completed before three years ago as it was planned, Ethiopia would have gotten an 800 million dollar for each past three years it delayed. It was also announced that the Dam, which is 65% done at the moment, will be producing power after 2 years and it will be fully finalized after four years.
