During an interview held one day before the celebration of the nations and nationalities day in Addis Ababa, Mr. Daud Ibsa, Chairman of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) said that it is easy to stop the movement against the new reforms if Ethiopian politicians work together.
During the celebration of the nations and nationalities day, Tigray was holding a second protest. Contrary to Mr. Daud, the leader of Tigray Regional State, Mr. Debretsion Gebremichael, gave a speech at the protest where he said that the ruling party politicians’ differences might exacerbate the instability in the country.
Mr. Debretsion, the current Chairman of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the acting President of Tigray Region, raised questions as to whether PM. Abiy’s reforms have been accepted by the whole country. In a stark contrast, Mr. Daud Ibsa showed optimism about the future of the country because political parties and the people of Ethiopia have chosen to stand united. Mr. Daud also mentioned the freedom of having mass rallies in itself is one that shows democracy is being experienced in this “new country”.
