In its 25/2019 issue, DIE ZEIT’s Felix Lill visited Ethiopia’s space-research centre in Addis Ababa and described a telescope hall that lost power mid-morning until staff restarted a generator beside mirrors shipped in marked German crates.
Lill asked whether one of the world’s poorer countries could use space research to protect harvests and keep gifted scientists from leaving, framing the observatory as both a national ambition and a fragile daily operation.
Kept as science archive, the ZEIT feature dates a mid-2019 European look at Ethiopia’s space and astronomy push.
