The Ethiopian calendar system is based on the ancient Coptic calendar, which is also known as the Geez calendar. It is seven years behind the gregorian calendar and follows a different date counting system throughout the year. Unlike that of Grigorian, every month contains 30 days. At the end of every year, there are five extra days, that are referred to as the Pagumen week. The Pagumen week adds another day and becomes six days long every four years. After these days, Ethiopians celebrate the new year, also known as Enqutatash (meaning The Gift of jewels), with a vibrant feeling of Euphoria.
