Organisers said the meeting would assess African space programmes, research and development, policy and strategy, and the participation of youth and women in aerospace. Other planned topics included equity in the use of space resources, space commerce and entrepreneurship, space for peace and diplomacy, and regional collaboration.

About 200 participants—political leaders, space agencies, vendors, scientists, engineers and international institutions—were expected. The congress was framed as a platform to link African space efforts with global partners and to showcase products and services aimed at socio-economic challenges on the continent.
