Ethiopian Electric Power has invited international bids for a full-service drilling contractor and consumables at the Alalobad geothermal site, ThinkGeoEnergy reported, under a World Bank–backed Geothermal Sector Development Project credit. The tender, ET-EEP-24663-CW-RFB, follows an earlier general procurement notice for the same programme.
The contractor must supply personnel, tools, equipment, and materials to drill four wells, with two optional extra wells depending on the first results. Bidding runs under World Bank international competitive bidding rules for eligible source countries.
Documents were to be available from 3 July 2019 at EEP’s procurement office in Addis Ababa for a non-refundable fee of 3,000 birr or 100 dollars. The notice named procurement director Kefyalew Mergiya as the contact for inspections during weekday business hours.
Alalobad sits inside Ethiopia’s wider push to turn Rift Valley heat into power alongside sites such as Aluto-Langano. A successful drill campaign would move another geothermal prospect from paper resource to tested wells.
