Legal scholar Solomon A. Dersso wrote in Addis Standard that the bloody Saturday of 22 June left Ethiopia needing a fresh national consensus. He said he shared the shock of millions after senior officials were killed in Amhara and Addis Ababa. The commentary treated the attacks as a political emergency, not only a crime story.
Dersso argued that reform without agreed rules for power-sharing and regional security left openings for spoilers. He urged political forces to rebuild trust across ethnic lines and to settle how regions and the federal government share force and authority. The piece pressed for dialogue rather than revenge cycles.
Addis Standard published the essay on 26 June 2019. It stands as a contemporary Ethiopian voice arguing that mourning had to turn into a clearer constitutional and political bargain.
