On 19 June 2019 the Norwegian Refugee Council said Ethiopia had the highest number of new displacements globally as World Refugee Day figures showed more than 70 million people on the move worldwide.
Secretary General Jan Egeland, visiting Ethiopia, said conflict and drought had displaced an estimated 3.2 million people by April while the country still hosted over 900,000 refugees, calling the crisis under-reported and under-funded.
Kept as humanitarian archive, the NRC release dates mid-2019 evidence that Ethiopia topped new global displacement counts.
