Tezera Tazebew examined the unfinished, conflicted path of Ethiopia’s modernity

He linked post-1991 ethnic federal identity, rising intercommunal violence, and fragile-state rankings to a longer scholarly debate on what “modern Ethiopia” meant from Haile Selassie through the Derg and into Abiy Ahmed’s reform period.

Kept as politics-analysis archive, the Ethiopia Insight essay dates a mid-2019 reading of Ethiopia’s incomplete modernity.
