Trócaire’s Seán Farrell described a drought-resilience water project near Adigrat

On 17 June 2019 ReliefWeb carried Trócaire’s Seán Farrell writing, on World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, about a water project near Adigrat in northern Ethiopia where a small reservoir and five kilometres of pipe watered green crops for hundreds of families.

Farrell said UKAID Match-backed work helped communities conserve soil, harvest fodder, build mountain terraces, and trap river water so farms could withstand more frequent drought, while arguing that those families had contributed little to climate change yet paid a high price.

Kept as climate and humanitarian archive, the Trócaire note dates a mid-2019 field view of drought resilience in Tigray’s Adigrat area.
