On 17 June 2019 Borkena published Araya G. Tekleabib’s essay “A Time for a mother call,” which welcomed early changes under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed while warning that praise alone would not secure lasting reform.
The writer argued that citizens still needed to speak plainly about unfinished work on rights, unity, and accountable government rather than treat the honeymoon period as finished business.
Kept as politics-analysis archive, the Borkena essay dates a mid-2019 diaspora call for sustained civic pressure alongside the reform government.
