UNHCR’s May 2019 Ethiopia fact sheet said the country still hosted about 905,831 registered refugees and asylum seekers as of August 2018, making it one of Africa’s largest refugee hosts, with more than 557,000 people already through comprehensive Level-3 registration.

UNHCR’s May 2019 Ethiopia fact sheet said the country hosted about 905,000 refugees

The agency described work with ARRA and dozens of partners on IDP protection in Gedeo–West Guji and Wollega, refugee education for nearly 200,000 students, tight food rations below 2,100 kcal in several camps, and plans to build tens of thousands of transitional shelters.

It also flagged cash-based aid expansion after Jijiga pilots, solar energy projects in camps, and resettlement submissions toward a 2019 target of 3,000 people.

Kept as humanitarian archive, the fact sheet dates the scale of Ethiopia’s refugee and IDP workload in mid-2019.
