On 13 June 2019 Borkena reported that Ethiopia’s parliament approved four National Election Board members—Bizuwork Ketete, Wubshet Ayele, Getahun Kassa, and Abera Degefa—from eight shortlisted candidates, with Wubshet named deputy chair under chairperson Birtukan Mideksa.
Deutsche Welle Amharic said seventeen lawmakers voted no, arguing Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had not adequately consulted sister parties, while a government representative said opposition parties had been invited and only about twenty representatives attended among more than one hundred registered parties.
Kept as elections archive, the Borkena report dates the June 2019 parliamentary confirmation of Election Board appointees ahead of the planned 2020 vote.
