On 13 June 2019 Business Daily reported that Kenya Electricity Generating Company, or KenGen, had won a new tender worth about Sh5.2 billion to drill geothermal wells and carry out geo-scientific surveys in Ethiopia.
The Kenyan state utility’s Ethiopia work sat inside a wider East African push to expand geothermal power beyond Kenya’s Rift Valley fields, and the tender notice marked another cross-border energy contract for KenGen in the Horn.
Kept as energy archive, the Business Daily report dates KenGen’s mid-2019 geothermal contract win in Ethiopia.
