Dr. Arvid Hogganvik, born in Debre Tabor to Norwegian parents, told his life story in Amharic

On 12 June 2019 Borkena posted a video in which Dr. Arvid Hogganvik, a medical doctor of Norwegian descent born in Debre Tabor in 1951 after his parents arrived from Norway in 1949, spoke about his life in fluent Amharic.

He said his father, also a doctor, spent about twenty-six years serving in Debre Tabor in northwestern Ethiopia, and the short feature presented the younger Hogganvik as an Ethiopian-raised physician whose family story sits inside mid-century Nordic medical work in the highlands.

Kept as diaspora and health-culture archive, the Borkena video dates a rare Amharic first-person memoir from a Norwegian-Ethiopian doctor in June 2019.
