On 10 June 2019 Borkena reported that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a town-hall meeting in Aksum, Tigray, where residents raised the federal system, constitutional implementation, election timing, budget, water, infrastructure, and peace, after also discussing rehabilitation of the city’s ancient obelisks.
Borkena noted that the Prime Minister’s Office public update stressed responsiveness on the obelisks and local services, while EBC said Abiy Ahmed told residents the ruling coalition still wanted elections on schedule but needed consultation among parties, against a backdrop of TPLF criticism of federal commissions and election delay talk.
Kept as politics archive, the Borkena report dates the Aksum town hall as a public flashpoint between federal messaging and Tigray concerns in June 2019.
