On 12 June 2019 Tadias Magazine highlighted a Reuters video on Ethiopia’s changing media scene after the country jumped about forty places in the Reporters Without Borders press-freedom index, with more than 250 previously banned websites and blogs running and, for the first time in fifteen years, no journalists held for their work according to that reporting.
Tadias said the video also pointed to new challenges for journalists and for the public’s right to timely, factual, and balanced news as media space opened after years of repression.
Kept as press-freedom archive, the Tadias post dates how diaspora media framed Ethiopia’s early reform-era media opening in June 2019.
