In June 2019 Food & Drink International reported that agribusiness firm Olam International had awarded $75,000 to scientists behind Innovation Mapping for Food Security, or IM4FS, a scenario-planning tool built from lessons of the CASCAPE project that had already worked with about 200,000 Ethiopian farmers.
The report said the interactive map was meant to help farmers and local officials choose what to plant where and how to raise yields in food-insecure areas, for example by testing where malt barley and fertilizer might fit best, in a country that Olam described as having large arable land yet still importing a large share of its food.
Kept as agribusiness archive, the Olam prize note dates an industry-backed attempt to turn Ethiopian farm research into a national planning tool in mid-2019.
