Work was set to begin on $4.4 billion Corbetti and Tulu Moye geothermal projects

In June 2019 Global Construction Review reported that work was due to begin in September on the Corbetti and Tulu Moye geothermal projects developed by Reykjavik Geothermal, schemes that might eventually produce about 1 GW at a combined cost near $4.4 billion.

Each site was described as potentially reaching about 500 MW, which would make them among Africa’s largest independent power projects, with early-stage finance arranged for a smaller first phase of roughly 50–65 MW and partners including Africa Renewable Energy Fund, Iceland Drilling, and Meridiam.

Kept as energy and infrastructure archive, the GCR report dates the mid-2019 launch window for Ethiopia’s big Rift Valley geothermal build-out.
