In June 2019 ThinkGeoEnergy reported that Kenya’s KenGen was set to undertake drilling of geothermal wells in Ethiopia, extending East Africa’s geothermal know-how across the border into Ethiopia’s Rift prospects.
Geothermal was part of Ethiopia’s plan to add firm renewable power beyond hydropower, so a Kenyan drilling role signaled regional technical cooperation as well as new generation capacity.
Kept as energy archive, the ThinkGeoEnergy note dates KenGen’s planned geothermal drilling work in Ethiopia in June 2019.
