In June 2019 Tadias Magazine republished, with the photographer’s permission, Chester Higgins Jr.’s Nile Magazine essay and photographs tracing the Blue Nile from Ethiopia’s highlands through Sudan and Egypt toward the Mediterranean.
The piece used the Amharic idea of “children of the river,” people whose travel and farming depend on river water, and it placed Ethiopia’s Blue Nile inside a longer cultural story that also includes Nubia and Kush, which Egyptologists and archaeologists were then studying more closely under the sand.
Kept as culture and arts archive, the Tadias feature dates how a major diaspora photographer framed Ethiopia’s Nile heritage for international readers in mid-2019.
