In June 2019 Borkena reported that a grenade attack in Nekemte, in western Oromia, had injured seven people, and that Wondwossen Yohannes, a player for the city’s club, had been shot and killed.
The short local report placed another violent incident in a western Oromia city already under strain from politics and insecurity, which made it useful as a dated security marker rather than a full investigation.
Kept as security archive, the Borkena note records the Nekemte grenade attack and the killing of the soccer player as reported in early June 2019.
