On 6 June 2019 OCHA reported that UN emergency relief coordinator Mark Lowcock had allocated about $45 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund for drought-hit parts of Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya, with $10 million of that envelope set aside for Ethiopia.
Failed 2019 spring rains had left southern Ethiopia facing water shortages, weak livestock, and the risk of another dry season in Somali Region, and food insecurity was expected to peak between June and October for many people in the worst-hit areas.
Kept as humanitarian archive, the CERF announcement dates the early international cash push against the 2019 Horn drought inside Ethiopia.
