Solidaridad and partners launched a project for a more sustainable Ethiopian cotton chain

In June 2019 New Business Ethiopia reported that Solidaridad, Cotton made in Africa, the Danish Ethical Trading Initiative, and MVO Nederland were starting a project meant to promote a more sustainable cotton and garment value chain in Ethiopia.

The partnership aimed to improve farming and factory standards so Ethiopian cotton and clothing could meet stricter buyer rules on environment and labor, which mattered for readers who follow Hawassa-style industrial parks and export apparel.

Kept as agribusiness and environment archive, the report dates an early multi-NGO push to clean up Ethiopia’s cotton-to-garment chain in mid-2019.
