In early June 2019 Ecofin Agency reported that Chinese group Huajian had signed agreements with Ethiopian authorities that included management of Jimma Industry Park and plans to invest roughly $100 million in shoe manufacturing and coffee processing.
Huajian was already a major Chinese footwear player in Ethiopia, so the extra investment pledge reinforced Addis Ababa’s bet that Chinese manufacturers would deepen local processing beyond assembly sheds.
Kept as FDI and industry archive, the Ecofin note dates Huajian’s mid-2019 expansion commitments beyond park management alone.
