In June 2019 AllAfrica reported that the World Bank, through the International Development Association, had approved guarantees under its Renewable Energy Guarantees Program, described as the first such guarantee package deployed in Ethiopia.
About $200 million in investment guarantees was meant to bring private companies into renewable power generation, which fitted Abiy Ahmed’s early push to open infrastructure to private capital.
Kept as energy and FDI archive, the report dates the World Bank’s first guarantee backing for Ethiopia’s private renewable power sector.
