In June 2019 The Reporter Ethiopia reported that unidentified gunmen attacked Kefi Minerals’ gold exploration and development project at Tullu Kapi in West Wellega Zone.
Mining projects in western Oromia already sat inside a wider security map of armed groups and communal tension, so an attack on a UK-linked explorer quickly became both a business and a politics story.
Kept as security and mining archive, the Reporter dispatch dates violence against extractive investment in Wellega.
