In June 2019 The Reporter Ethiopia wrote that Chinese shoemaker Huajian Group had taken over management and operations at the roughly $61 million Jimma Industry Park.
Huajian was already known for leather and footwear manufacturing in Ethiopia, so handing it park management signaled Addis Ababa’s bet that experienced Chinese operators could fill empty sheds and recruit tenants faster than a state-run model.
Kept as industry and FDI archive, the Jimma handover dates one concrete step in Ethiopia’s industrial-park strategy under Abiy Ahmed’s early reform years.
