UNHCR evacuated vulnerable refugees, including Ethiopians, from Libya


At the end of May 2019 Addis Standard reported that UNHCR had evacuated hundreds of vulnerable refugees from Libya, including Ethiopians, as part of an ongoing effort to move people out of detention and conflict risk along the central Mediterranean route.

Libya remained a dangerous transit country for Horn migrants and refugees, so each evacuation flight mattered for families waiting in Ethiopia and for agencies tracking returns and resettlement.

Kept as migration archive, the Addis Standard note dates one UNHCR airlift that pulled Ethiopians and others out of Libya’s detention system.
