In May 2019 Amnesty International warned that Ethiopia’s failure to deliver justice for past atrocities continued to shape present politics, and it tied unresolved Red Terror and later EPRDF-era abuses to unfinished reform under Abiy Ahmed.

The organization argued that without credible investigations and prosecutions, victims’ families would keep living beside alleged perpetrators, and that political opening alone could not close that wound.

Accountability demands from 2019 sit beside diaspora court cases and regional jail scandals from the same weeks, and they form a single rights ledger for the transition years.
