In May 2019 Future Directions International published an analysis arguing that dropping water levels in Ethiopian rivers were putting hydropower generation and growth plans at risk.
Ethiopia’s grid still leaned on dams, so drought and low reservoirs quickly became industrial and household blackouts, not only farm news.
The warning sat beside official rationing that cut exports to Djibouti and Sudan while domestic users rotated through outage shifts.
Kept as energy and climate archive, the Future Directions note dates one outside assessment of Ethiopia’s hydro vulnerability in 2019.
