In May 2019 Bloomberg reported that Ethiopian Airlines pilot Bernd Kai von Hoesslin emailed senior managers months before Flight 302, urging more training and clearer information on the Boeing 737 Max after the Lion Air crash.
According to the emails, he warned that crews overwhelmed by multiple cockpit alerts—including a ground-proximity “PULL UP” warning during an MCAS malfunction—could face a crash, and he criticized simulators that did not reproduce MCAS behavior.
Ethiopian Airlines said it followed Boeing and FAA guidance; Flight 302 later killed 157 people in March 2019 and helped ground the Max worldwide.
Kept as aviation archive, the pilot-warning file is a dated record of crew concern inside Ethiopian Airlines before the Max disaster.
